"I am hoping for a sequel. The Lay of LaLa Land was undoubtedly an extraordinary page-turner."
- San Francisco Book Review
After being caught peeping in on his nubile young step-mom with his makeshift peeping contraption, 12 year-old Lenny Dushoff's abusive, gluttonous father sends him off to a mental hospital for a 72 hour psychiatric evaluation. In a year's time from the peeping incident, Lenny will suffer a great loss, one that will riddle him with guilt throughout his adolescence.
Seven years later, Lenny, now quiet, insecure and sexually inexperienced, escaped the trauma of his upbringing to the campus of a major university, where as a sophomore psychology major he finally finds the love that he’s dreamed of since boyhood.
But as boy meets girl, Lenny discovers Jane’s “dirty” secret, one that could destroy her entire life.
In a dramatic, darkly comic, but often absurdist coming of age tale about college sexual mayhem, Lenny uncovers the childhood roots of Jane’s human condition, and in the process, comes to a deeper understanding of his own.
"A.Y. Miles writes a brutally honest portrait of life, love, and reality in his book, The Lay of Lala Land... This book was one crazy ride from beginning to startling end."- Seattle Book Review

Like Life The Lay Of La La Land breezes by as we try to excape its brutalities and absurdities.Lenny the young, amusing, nebish narrator yearns for sex and love. His loss of innocence is delightful and devastating.
He finds love but can't shake human frailty and brutality. His humor is his saving grace as he deals with
broken hearts and the chaos of humanity. Lenny and his lover Jane have stayed with me long after reading the book. The book
reads like a summer romp, a college keg party, warped and mischievous, but you also hear the sirens coming in the background.
This is a story you will never forget for it's humor and gripping, tragic turns.

The Lay of LaLa Land A Y Miles 9781520397788 Books Reviews
Wow. Just Wow. Trumps "50 Shades of Gray" in so many ways. There's a plot and a purpose. 1/2 way through the book I was thinking this would be a good book to pass on to my son someday, before he heads off to college. After finishing though, I'm thinking it would be crazy weird coming from his Mom. The book had everything in it, laughter, romance, sadness, suspense, kinkiness, sex, sex and more sex...and a twist. This a book that you won't want to lay down.
This was the funniest book I have read since augustin burroughs’ running with scissors. Really funny —I was laughing out loud. The quality of the writing is top notch and I can’t wait for his next book. This is a must read!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this existential, coming-of-age wickedly funny book. A page turner that will entertain you, make you think and brighten your day.
What a pleasant surprise and a good read! Corky, funny, witty.
Don't get discouraged (or aroused) by the book cover, the story is a little gem.
Perfect "summer" read!
Good stuff, love the L.A. setting.
More please!
I absolutely loved this book. It dealt with a serious subject, sexuality and how early experiences shape your outlook. The author took what I can only imagine is his own Jewish upbringing (similar to mine) and used his humor to take us on the path of the neurotic main character. We all know a guy like Lenny! Relating to him and his OCD was easy! The only problem I had was I read it too quickly during my vacation and was left with less satisfying reads. Readers prepare for a page turner you can't put down! I hope to read much more!!
A fun, highly entertaining coming-of-age read. A.Y. Miles accurately captures though narrator Lenny's self-doubting inner voice thought processes, raging insecurities, and outright neuroses I think most folks can relate to at some juncture in their lives. Good pacing, interesting and off-the-wall but believable personalities from LaLaLand's seedier loonier underbelly, and still plenty of surprises. Added bonus for me as a LA local to recognize many of the settings. Enjoyed the story and felt invested in Lenny's character development all the way to the shocking climax (and its aftermath). Worth it! In a way, #WeAreAllLenny
Wow is what comes to mind as I write this review! Funny, witty, entertaining - I even blushed on several occasions! Great character development, especially with the main character Lenny. I could absolutely feel his pain and awkwardness. This is a fun read and, while I'd personally hold off reading it to my grandchildren fearing the questions that might arise, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something with twists and turns in every chapter. You're a very talented writer A.Y. Miles! Bring on the movie!
